COMPORTA GOLF TROPHY 2025
RULES AND REGULATIONS

PARTICIPATION: Competition open to all amateur players with handicap certified by the respective club or federation. The maximum playing handicap for men and women is 28.0 WHS. Players with a higher handicap will be assumed to be equivalent to 28.0 WHS.

FORMAT: The Tournament will be held on the 12, 13, 14 and 15 November 2025 in Stroke Play with Handicap, with limit to a maximum of 10 strokes per hole.

18 holes will be played per day on each course, totalizing 72 holes. The courses will be played by this order: Comporta Dunas, Troia, Comporta Torre and Comporta Dunas.

RULES: The rules to apply are those approved by the Royal and Ancient Rules Limited and the Local Rules to be established by the competition committee.

The balls used in competition must comply with the list of balls approved by the R&A and the USGA. (Available on the Internet – www.randa.org or www.usga.org).

Tee-off Time (Rule 5.3a): In the absence of reasons that justify the penalty of disqualification, if a player arrives at his/her tee-off point, ready to play, within five (5) minutes of the defined tee-off time, the general penalty will be applied on the first hole.

Rule 3-3 shall be used whenever there are doubts on how to proceed during the competition.

Rule 4.3: – The use of measuring devices or distance gauges is permitted. The device CANNOT have other associated features, such as: analysing ground conditions such as slopes or inclinations, measuring wind speed, or temperature.

SUSPENSION OF THE COMPETITION: In the event the competition is suspended due to the occurrence of dangerous situations (e.g. lightning, approaching thunderstorm, etc.), players must stop their game immediately. The suspension of the competition due to dangerous situations will be marked by a long blow on the horn. Any other suspension of the competition will be marked by several consecutive and short blows of the horn. The resumption of the competition will be marked by two long blows of the horn.

Penalty for Infraction of Rules: Disqualification

5 METHOD

5.1 Players will be grouped by close handicaps.

5.2 Tee-offs can be from Tee 1, Tee 1 and Tee 10 or even in shotgun, according to competition committee decision.
5.3  “NS”, “NR” and disqualified players cannot be considered on the leader board. However, they can play for skill prizes that could exist in each course.
5.4  The handicaps shall comply with the rules and they will be the same from beginning to the end of the competition. In exceptional situations the handicaps can be adjusted by the competition committee.

 

6. TIE BREAKS:

The criteria to separated tied players prizing positions in the categories will be the best result in the final 9, 6, 3 and last hole of the Comporta Dunes las day. If players are still tied, then the highest handicap will be chosen on the GROSS classification and lastly by drawing lots, while on the NETT classification it will be by the lowest handicap and lastly by drawing lots.
The tiebreaker for the prizing places of the General Leader board will be by the 18, 9, 6, 3 and last hole of Comporta Dunas course, or, if this does not result, by the scores on the previews days, by reverse order. If players are still tied, then the lowest handicap in NETT and the highest in GROSS will be chosen and finally by drawing lots.

7 CATEGORIES:

The categories for the tournament are the following:

Category 1 – up to 11.4 handicap
Category 2 – 11.5 to 18.4 handicap
Category 3 – 18.5 to 28.0 handicap

In the event of less than four players in one category, the Committee can adjust the limits of the handicap categories or place the players in the category immediately near to their handicap.

8 PRIZES: The following prizes will be awarded:

GENERAL

1^st GROSS and NETT
1^st GROSS and NETT LADIES

 CATEGORIES:

1^st NETT

NOTES: The prizes are not cumulative.

9 RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION – COMPETITION CONCLUDED: The result of the competition is officially announced 30 minutes after the final results sheet is published on the site reserved for this purpose. In the event of totally adverse weather conditions, the competition committee may cancel the results of one or more courses or even cancel the Leader Board. While playing the Tournament, if there is any cancellation or if the player is disqualified in the competition, or if the player abandons the competition, he/she is not entitled to any refund or any extra round of golf.

10 PACE OF PLAY: The playing time for each round of the tournament (including practice day) is of 4h40m. The non-respect by this measure when requested by course marshals or any other authority is covered by the highest level of sanction of the Code of Conduct for this competition.

11 CODE OF CONDUCT:

It is established the following code of conduct for this competition:

•Player should respect the course and must replace divots and rake bunkers
•Player must use proper language during competition
•Player must be respectful with other players, referees, marshals, starters or viewers.
•Player can use shirts with any kind of collars, but cannot wear ripped or dirty clothes, avoiding the use of jeans and t-shirts. Shoes adapted to the game must be used.
•The measures applied to the player are also extended to the caddie.
In case of disrespect by the code of conduct, will be applied the following penalties:
•First breach – warning (that can be made by the committee or by any other person with authority on the course)
•Second breach – one stroke penalty
•Third Breach – general penalty
• Fourth breach or any serious misconduct – disqualification.

12 CANCELLATION AND AMENDMENTS TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS:

The competition committee may, at any time, Complete or amend these Rules and Regulations, Suspend or cancel any of the rounds, or even Annul or cancel the Competition

Any omissions of these Rules and Regulations shall be definitively decided by the Competition Committee.
